John 14:6

Read:John 14: 1-18

I am the way and the truth and the life.”

Do you ever twist the truth a little? Do you ever exaggerate a story to make it sound a little bit better? I’m sure you do sometimes. It’s something all of us have done.

But Jesus never did this. He always told the truth. In John 14:6 Jesus tells us, “I am the way and the truth and the life.” What did Jesus mean when he said, “I am the truth”? What is truth? When we think about truth, we think about not lying. For example, if you were playing and broke a window, you should not lie when you tell your parents what happened. You must tell them exactly what happened. You need to tell the truth.

But truth is so much more than this. Truth means everything that is right and good. Truth means doing things the way God wants them done. And this is what Jesus means when he says that he is the truth. Every single word that Jesus spoke was true. Every single thing he did was true, good, and right! Jesus never did anything wrong.

When Jesus says that he alone is the truth, he means that nothing else is the truth. Many people today will tell you that you can believe whatever you want. But Jesus tells us that if we want to be saved, we must believe in him. His words are the only truth. The Bible is the truth.

As God’s child, you must also walk in the truth. We need to make the truth a part of our whole life. This means always telling the truth, but it also means doing what is good and right. This is very difficult to do, isn’t it? But the good news is that God has sent His Spirit — the Spirit of truth — to help you do this. Have a look at verse seventeen where Jesus makes the promise that his Spirit of truth will dwell in you.

What does it mean to walk in the truth?
