Alternative Worship: Post-Modern or Post-Mission Church?

Alternative Worship: Post-Modern or Post-Mission Church?

  • Technical
  • Rachel Atkinson

Atkinson gives us an overview and critique of the alternative worship movement. She outlines its roots and then focuses attention on four of its central characteristics. These characteristics are the concerns for contextualisation, experience, multi-sensory worship and participation. Finally, she evaluates its possible contribution to the church while also offering some serious challenges as far as its attitude and practice in relation to mission in the world is concerned.

There is a difference between fearing God, and being afraid of God; the Godly fear God as a child does his father, the wicked are afraid of God as the prisoner is of a judge. Thomas Watson
