Conviction of sin is hardly possible in today's Western culture. We believe not in sin and forgiveness but in illness and recovery. Increasingly, the people who gather in churches for worship come expecting to have their self-esteem enhanced. In light of this tendency, this article reflects on the place of confession of sin, genuine sorrow and a declaration of forgiveness in corporate worship.
