The Theology of the Drink Offering

The Theology of the Drink Offering

  • Popular
  • Peter J. Leithart

This article considers the meaning of and rationale for the drink offering or libation in Scripture. It shows how drinking wine is a sabbatical activity, and how because only God was to be given the wine of the offering, it was a sign of Israel's exclusion from full participation in God's victory and rest. The author then draws some inferences for texts like Philippians 2:17 and 2 Timothy 4:6.
