This chapter offers a history of how and why the Gospel Coalition was formed. At first it wanted to identify and strengthen the confessional foundation of evangelicalism, and so produced a confessional statement of its own that it discusses herein. The Coalition also formed in order to describe, support, and embody gospel-centred ministry today. The article discusses how the Coalition wants to support a Scripture-based reformation of Christian ministry practices in churches, especially those with a truncated view of the gospel.
