Hebrews 10:24-25

Read: Hebrews 10:19-25

Do you love your church — not only going to church, but also the people in your church? Do you love being a part of the church community?

Some of the Hebrews that Paul wrote to were a bit discouraged and sad. And so Paul reminds them to love each other and help each other in serving the Lord. It is important to come together to worship the Lord so that we can help and encourage each other.

You don’t go to church just for yourself. Church isn’t just about you and your relationship with the Lord. Oh yes, that is very important, and you must go to church to grow in your love for the Lord and to praise God. But being a part of the church is also important so that we can learn together, pray together and help each other. After church you can talk with your friends about the sermon. But you can also show love and concern in other ways. Ask your friends how they are doing, instead of always talking about yourself. If they are sad, speak to them about it. Encourage them that God is caring for them. If they are happy, be thankful with them for the blessings that the Lord gives to them. And if someone reminds you that something you are about to do is wrong, listen, and remember that the Lord is using others to help you serve him.

The Lord knows that if we didn’t have a church to belong to and tried to serve the Lord just by ourselves or in our own families, that we could soon lose joy in Christ, and we might forget about praying and reading the Bible. That’s why God wants us to be part of a church, to belong to the communion of saints, so that we can help each other to serve the Lord.

We know that Christ will return soon, and so we must use the days that the Lord gives us to serve him, to go to church twice every Sunday, and to love and help each other.

Reflection with your child:

Why is it so important to belong to the church?
