Esther 2:17-18
Esther 2:17-18
Read: Esther 2
It had been about three years since King Ahasuerus had divorced Vashti his queen. The king was lonely and wished for the company of his wife again. The king’s rulers quickly thought of a plan to keep the king happy. They suggested that he should find himself another wife.
God uses this loneliness of the king to make sure his plans happen. The Lord was caring for his covenant people. Yes, he had sent them into exile to punish them, but because of his covenantal love for his people, he cared for them even in exile. God is always working on his plan of salvation, and that can be seen here in this chapter as well.
Satan was also busy. He probably thought that if he could convince the king to take Esther as queen, this Jewish girl would join in with the culture of the Persians and serve their gods. He was likely very happy when the king chose Esther as queen. He also began to form his plan to use Haman to destroy all the Jews.
But God is always ahead of the devil. Though Satan may think that he is winning, God is always protecting and caring for his covenant people. God is always at work, even if we don’t see it. Esther may very well have been frightened about being chosen as queen for this heathen king, and may have wondered where God was, but we know the whole story and know that God was indeed busy. God made sure that Esther became queen because he was going to use her to save his people.
That is also why God made sure Mordecai was in the king’s court and heard about the plot to kill the king. God made sure this event was recorded in the king’s books because God was also going to use this later in his plan to save his people.
Reflection with your child:
Do you think Esther and Mordecai knew how the Lord was going to use them?
