Ephesians 6:11, 18

Read: Ephesians 6:10-18

Do you think about Satan often? Maybe you do, or maybe you don’t. But know well that Satan thinks about you often. He is thinking about you because he is trying hard to get you to listen to him instead of to God. He is attacking you every day.

Let me tell you some ways that Satan attacks you. Very often he uses lies. You might think that you don’t really have to listen to your parents because they don’t understand you anyway. That’s a lie from Satan. If you tell your siblings that Mum said you were allowed to do something when she didn’t say that, it is a lie from Satan.

Satan also uses temptations to cause you to sin. You might be tempted to take the biggest piece of cake or to get angry at your brother or sister. These are temptations to make you sin.

Satan sometimes also uses persecution to make you try to forget about God or to stop praising him. It might just be your friends calling you names for trying to obey the Lord. But that might be enough for you to stop praising God.

There are many other ways that Satan attacks you every day. So what should you do about it? You should pray! The Lord is majestic and powerful, and so you can ask him to destroy the works of Satan. And he will certainly listen to you. That’s why Jesus came to earth — to destroy the work of Satan. That’s why he died on the cross, rose again and ascended into heaven. And he sends his Word and Spirit to you so that you too can fight against Satan. When you listen to God’s Word and live by it, Satan is powerless. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, you can fight against the attacks of Satan.

Reflection with your child:

Do you remember to pray, asking the Lord to help you fight against Satan? Can you think of some ways in which Satan attacks you?
