This article discusses the active obedience of Christ, as a vital part of his work of salvation. It first investigates the confessional development of this doctrine, then considers the scriptural basis for the doctrine, and finally discusses the question whether this doctrine is compatible with an emphasis on believers' covenant obedience.

This article shows, from Deuteronomy 30, that covenant obedience is rooted in loving, trusting and obeying God. This obedience is only possible through the redemptive work of Christ.
