God's "Name" and God's "Glory"

God's "Name" and God's "Glory"

  • J. Gordon McConville

What is the relationship between the name of God and the glory of God? In OT studies there has been a change in the conception of the ark of the covenant in Deuteronomy. The ark is no longer seen as the footstool of God in his glory, but merely a receptacle containing the stones on which the law is written. This study is concerned with the fact that God's name has been used to demythologize the ark. Exodus 33:18ff. is a vital passage for the interpretation of this relationship between the name and glory of God.
