Efficacious Grace

Efficacious Grace

  • Semi-Technical
  • Loraine Boettner

This article discusses the teaching of efficacious grace as embraced by Calvinists. The article focuses on the inward change that is necessarily worked supernaturally, the effect produced in the soul, and the sufficiency of Christ's work on behalf of those for whom he suffered. Related to this teaching, the article also addresses the Arminian view of universal grace, noting that the doctrine of efficacious grace does not imply the violation of the free agency of man. A related subject also addressed here is common grace.
