This article argues that the Gospel of Mark’s sayings on the coming of the Son of Man (Mark 8:38, Mark 13:24-27, and Mark 14:62) refer to the return of Jesus. This is argued against the view of R. T. France and N. T. Wright according to whom these sayings call attention to the vision of Daniel 7:9-14. In this vision "one like a son of man" comes into the presence of God for the purpose of enthronement. This points then to Jesus’ vindication upon his resurrection, not his second coming. This article argues that these passages from Mark point to the parousia of Jesus, i.e., his coming as exalted Lord from heaven to earth at the end of history.
