  • Semi-Technical
  • Keith Ferdinando

The African church has become a major influence in Christianity. An important contributor of international reputation is Kwame Bediako, a scholar from Ghana. This article is a discussion of the issue of Christian identity from an African perspective addressed in Bediako's book, Theology and Identity: The Impact of Culture on Christian Thought in the Second Century and Modern Africa. He notes the relationship between African traditional religion and the Christian faith and the nature of conversion to the Christian faith. He considers wherein Christian identity consists.
