(Broken Link) Thus Saith the Research
UnpublishedStephanie Coontz, in a recent New York Times Op-Ed piece (July 5, 2005), made the point that conservative proponents of marriage have had a rough time lately. Facing pressure in this country by some states which have or may soon legalize same-sex marriages, traditional marriage advocates have also suffered defeats in countries such as Canada and Spain, where both recently passed legislation legalizing homosexual marriages. Without necessarily criticizing these developments as negatives, Coontz provocatively suggests that the societal movement toward accepting same-sex marriage has been pushed (or maybe pulled) by heterosexuals themselves.
