Habakkuk was in a vigilant posture (Hab.2:2-4). He was fully expecting a response from the Most High to his prayer. The prophet's words had bordered on impudence in conversation with the Almighty. It had been suggested that the Holy One surely could not stand by in silence as heathen atrocities were unleashed against a guilty (but less wicked) Israel.
