The Great Commission in the Old Testament

The Great Commission in the Old Testament

  • Popular
  • Walter C. Kaiser Jr

Do we find any reference to worldwide mission in the Old Testament? Kaiser argues that there is a mission mandate and emphasis in the Old Testament that should not be overlooked. Specific attention is given to the covenant with Abraham (Genesis 12), Israel as priestly kingdom (Exodus 19), the house of David (2 Samuel 7:19), the message of the Psalms (notably Psalm 67), the Servant Songs in Isaiah, and the message of the book of Jonah.

Our Lord has many weak children in his family, many dull pupils in his school, many raw soldiers in his army, many lame sheep in his flock. Yet he bears with them all, and casts none away. Happy is that Christian who has learned to do likewise with his brethren. J. C. Ryle
